Tretiva 40mg Capsule is an acne treatment developed by Intas pharma.

It is a generic version of Accutane and comes in the form of a yellow oval tablet.

Effects of Tretiva 40mg

Isotretinoin, the main ingredient in Tretiva, is a vitamin A derivative that has the effect of shrinking sebaceous gland cells and suppressing sebum secretion.

By causing sebaceous glands to recede, pores become smaller.

Acne-causing bacteria such as P. acnes and Staphylococcus aureus hide in pores and sebaceous glands, but by shrinking pores and sebaceous glands, the number of acne-causing bacteria is reduced.

As a result, acne heals faster and new acne is less likely to form.

Furthermore, Tretiva has the ability to normalize sebaceous gland cells and epidermal cells, and is said to be effective in preventing abnormal keratinization and reducing the unevenness of acne scars.

Because it is an oral medication, it is effective not only for acne on the face, but also for acne and acne scars on the back and buttocks.

How to take Tretiva 40mg

Timing of taking

Take after meals.

Each course should last 3 to 6 months, and there should be at least a 2-month rest period after treatment.

Approximate dosage

Take once a day.

Take 0.5mg to 1mg per 1kg of body weight. (Example: 25mg to 50mg for a person weighing 50kg)

If you are taking this medicine for the first time, start with 20mg, and the dose may be increased to 40mg after 2 to 3 months.

If side effects are tolerable, the dose may be increased to 60mg per day.

Make sure to take this medicine after a meal and with food in your stomach.

Recommended dose

0.5mg to 1mg per kg of body weight.

In severe cases, you can take up to 2mg per 1kg of body weight, but it is prohibited to take more than 60mg per day regardless of body weight.

Please keep the total intake to 120 to 150 mg per 1 kg of body weight for 3 to 6 months per course.

Side effects of Tretiva 40mg

Main side effects

The main side effects include dryness of the mucous membranes of the skin, mouth, eyes, and nose, dizziness, and vomiting.

Use a moisturizer that won’t cause acne if possible, as it will dry you out while you’re taking it.

Also, be sure to apply lip balm while taking this medication, as side effects such as cracked lips are common.

If isotretinoin is taken by a pregnant woman while trying to conceive, there is a high possibility of teratogenicity to the fetus or miscarriage.

Please use two methods of contraception for 1 month before taking this medicine and for 6 months after taking this medicine.

It has been reported that when taken during pregnancy, more than 90% of women have abortions or fetal death, and 9.3% of the children born had congenital abnormalities.

Do not become pregnant, breast-feed, or donate blood while taking this medicine and for 6 months afterwards.

Isotretinoin can also cause other mental health problems such as depression, irritability, and in rare cases, suicidal thoughts or attempts.

Contraindicated drugs are drugs that are incompatible with Tretiva and cannot be taken together.

• Tetracycline antibiotics and vitamin A preparations may have strong side effects.
• Corticosteroids and phenytoin may have strong side effects that weaken bones.
• There is no problem in using steroids used to treat asthma or topical steroids for atopic dermatitis.
